- Only available for Windows guests, running Windows XP or later. Guest Additions must be installed. Because 2D support is still experimental at this time, it is disabled by default and must be manually enabled in the VM settings. See Section 3.6, 'Display Settings'.
- Access the virtual machine's menu and go to devices and click: 'Install Guest Additions CD Image'. Go to My Computer (This PC in Windows 10) and open the Guest Additions CD drive under the Devices and drivers section. Right click on VBoxWindowsAdditions and select Run as administrator. The Guest Additions Setup Wizard will start automatically.
- The VirtualBox Guest Additions support Windows and Linux. This includes multiple versions of Linux, but we can't guarantee they'll run on every single distribution. Even if the Guest Additions install properly, you can't necessarily count on every possible feature working correctly.
While trying to install guest additions in a Sun VirtualBox Windows XP Guest, you may have a registry problem. In this case, uninstalling guest additions completely and attempting a reinstall will not help. Some or all of the features afforded by guest additions may not function properly, especially seamless mode. In order to install the guest additions, you need to restart the Win XP in Safe Mode. Just restart the guest, and press F8 right before OS boot. It will give you the menu and you will choose, 'Start in Safe mode' (no matter if you select with or without network.
